The Qing Dynasty The Ming was supplanted by the Qing Dynasty. As is frequently the consequence of a politically feeble structure, their standard was in truth a remote intrusion since the Qing rulers were not Han Chinese, however Manchu. Capital Punishment A Deadly Mistake Essay - 1342 Words

Johann Kailey-Steiner English 1020 Ms. Campbell 15 November 2016 Capital Punishment: a Deadly Mistake Robert Ladd raped, robbed, and murdered Vickie Ann Gardner in 1996 and was sentenced to death based on sufficient DNA and fingerprint evidence at the crime scene. Ladd was later given an IQ test that would determine his mental capability. If he tested below 70, he would be considered, scientifically, mentally ill. He received a score of 67. This should have disqualified Ladd from capital punishment under the Supreme Court case Atkins v. Virginia which determined that, â€Å"Executions of mentally retarded criminals are ‘cruel and unusual punishments’ prohibited by the Eighth Amendment.† (Atkins v Virginia). Texas has been widely ridiculed for their highly subjective approach to determining mental illness. They based their assessment on Lennie Small from Of Mice and Men rather than scientific evidence of mental disability. So Texas continued to seek death regardless of the proof because Ladd didn’t act like Lennie. In a l etter written on January 5, 2015 to Hamilton Nolan, a journalist for Gawker.com, Ladd wrote (with assistance), â€Å"It s clear that the judge in my case R. Schell, and the 5thcir (sic). are clearly BIAS in their opinion again this is about REVENGE and justice† (Nolan). Last year at this time our electric bill was very high but I reduced our bill this year by only using lights that are needed at that moment, by setting our A/C at 780, only using our oven on the stove as needed, and reducing the usage of our microwave, of course everything in our home is electric so that do cause some problems, some people Just walk out of a room and leave the light on or go out of the door with the air on and leave the door open. The idea of having heating oil or coal coming from Russia would put a change thin a lot of households, imagine having to pay close to $500-$600 Just for lights, there would be a big change with all people because this meaner that the amount of time that it take to use your stove for cooking would change, even the time that is spent on the internet for class or Just for fun would change and all those days from having a television on Just for noise In the background would have to end also. Electric coming from Russia would mean a reduce of usage because there would be a raise in the price of oil, gas and coal. Currently the debate that has my attention has to do with the usage of high ethanol gas. This gas supposed to be cleaner and reduce the emission from regular gas. Currently our ozone layer is steady being destroyed from pollutions that are entering the environment. Having high ethanol gas would help to reduce this emission but then also having flex-fuel vehicles or an electric vehicle would count towards helping the environment. Explaining Chart: Electric usage for television, computer, electric stove, oven usage on two days, hot water for bathing, cordless phone going down needed recharging, A/C on for cooling the home, ceiling fan on in the living room. Solar: Came to a good usage blinds up on windows did not have to use lights as often. Gas: Two days In a row gas had to be put in our truck, husband and son job hunting and these two days were spent going out of East Felicia Parish looking for work, Gas was use going to the doctor for my monthly check-up which also made more gas added to the truck. Computers play a vital role in meeting the challenges of global competitiveness, where businesses must be efficient and responsive, and must produce high quality goods and services at an even lower cost. Without computers, to provide the accurate, precise information needed to make strategic decisions and to manage production processes, many companies would find it impossible to survive. 1. Used to collect and store data Computers are widely used primarily to collect, manage and reproduce a wide variety of business data. That can mean everything from medical and financial records to a list of parts to make a thing. It can include the plans and designs for a new product. Payroll accounting was the first commercial area to become widely computerized. The information of wages and salaries involves a number of variables but common factors which relate to the personal details of each employee, such as gross pay, tax code, insurance premium, other perks and many others , are handled and stored by the computer. Computers use stored information to construct simulations ranging from simple analyses to realistic depictions and animations of new products. Accountants and book keepers can substitute new retail prices for the products, and immediately see the effect on the firm’s profits. Marketing people can use presentation software to test advertising slogans on small groups of potential customers before carrying out the major campaign. 1. Help in communication both directly and indirectly. Computers also help managers to communicate both directly and indirectly. Publishing software brings the power of the printing press within the reach of everybody. Public relations department can create glossy reports, complete with photographs, articles and charts, at a cost much lesser than that of outside services with the help of computers. Office employees today use electronic mail (E-mail) to stay in touch with their co-workers. From the perspective of a typical corporation, information is any non-tangible item that affects business. Plans for the new products, employee reviews, moves made by the competitor, price lists, stock market moves just about anything can be considered  information. 1. 4 Help Mangers to face competition and overcome it Corporations need information to make decisions about product features, marketing efforts, and investments among other things. Today, information alone is not enough; it should be accurate and up-to-date. To be profitable a company must know where the market is headed, and must be able to jump in and out at the right times. Having the access to good and accurate information and turning it around into products which consumers want, is the key to staying in business. The company that does not stay well informed may quickly be left behind by its efficient competitors. 1. 5 Availability of Information Stock control and the processing of sales and sales accounting, sales analysis, market research, forecasting and subsequent production planning are additional areas in which the computer assists in business and commercial organizations. In all these cases the company can benefit from mmediate availability of the information which the computer provides. Computers have become a necessity in the banking sector to tackle the massive volume of book keeping this sector involves. In most cases the computers are located centrally, the various batches being equipped with terminals. This enables the branches to interrogate the central system for information on such things such as current balances, deposits, overdrafts, interest charges, shares and other records. One of the mammoth operations carried out is the clearance of cheques. To conclude from the above one can observe that Businesses must take advantage of computers to be faster and accurate. They can also have a faster turnover in the business. 2. Mobile phones The mobile access to corporate emails provides; 2. 1 Greater responsiveness to clients, partners or suppliers; Organizations can improve communication and service at all external contact points by providing employees with more timely access to information. True mobile e-mail solutions that provide real-time delivery of e-mail provide added benefits. 2. 2 Improved work-life balance for employees; Increasingly, the line between home life and work life is blurring for the average professional. Although jokes abound that mobile devices make workers accessible at all times (even when they do not wish to be accessible), user-friendly solutions can actually create extra time for workers in both aspects of their lives. An employees ability to leave work to watch a childs soccer game- knowing he or she can receive an important e-mail on the sidelines-improves morale immeasurably. 2. 3 Increased utilization of existing information and technology investments; Workforce mobility is increasing every year. If information and technology applications do not go mobile along with the employees, their value decreases significantly. Wireless data investments should be viewed as an incremental cost of much larger existing information and technology investments. 2. 4 Ability to leverage existing devices for multiple wireless solutions; Cellular phones are a way of life for todays workers. Data-capable handsets are virtually ubiquitous. Adding wireless e-mail capabilities onto these pervasive workforce tools makes practical sense and reduces the cost of deployment. Although it is difficult to determine the benefits realized from wireless e-mail access, it is worthwhile to understand that even minimal assumed productivity gains for mobile professionals can provide financial justification for deployment. The greatest challenge is measuring productivity gains from wireless e-mail access. Some analyses have assumed large time savings in terms of hours per day per employee. Yet even a very conservative measure of productivity gains, such as 30 minutes per day, yields measurable benefits. 2. 5 Saving cost There is very high competition in today’s world because each organization strives to have communication facilities of the best kind ever. This competition also applies to mid-size businesses and small businesses. Using mobile also helps to save on costs because they are inexpensive and thus it is a good way of saving money especially with today’s economic crises. Therefore, each manager should invest in the best business mobile available so that they are not left out in today’s competitive world. 3. (b) Tactical Information: this is us ed to decide how the resources of the business should be employed. (c) Operational Information: this information is used to make sure that specific operational tasks are carried out as planned/intended (i. e. things are done properly). 6. Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras Closed circuit television is an incredibly useful tool for employers for a large variety of reasons. Some of these are fairly obvious such as preventing thefts and other crimes, aiding the police and watching employees. However there are many aspects and elements that you may not have considered that make Closed Circuit Television cameras not just useful, but invaluable, and make it a system that every manager should employ. Bellow are just some of the extra hidden benefits of owning Closed Circuit Television cameras. 6. 1 Protecting Employees In many jobs employees are vulnerable to physical or verbal attacks from the general public. In high pressure or stressful situations, its not unusual that customers will lash out at a company representative. Knowing that they are being watched by Closed Circuit Television camera however can minimise these cases and empower them to calmly deal with them. Furthermore, it can protect them against false allegations which can also be common depending on the nature of the business. 6. 2 Preventing Crime Of course Closed Circuit Television cameras can help managers to identify how a crime happened and to spot it in action, but it can also prevent it from occurring in the first place simply by them knowing theyre being watched. . 3 Preventing employee theft Theft and crime doesnt just occur when customers or members of public pocket goods; a lot of the time it is employees themselves who are stealing from the business. Statistics and focus groups suggest that the reason for this isnt often need but rather opportunity. If staff notices that theyre being watched it will make this far less likely. 6. 4 Employee Satisfaction However, should manager be experiencing a fair amount of employee theft, it may suggest that your employees arent happy with their work and that this is a way of lashing out at the company. Watching Closed Circuit Television cameras can give manager an idea of life in the shoes of employees which can help a manager to streamline the business and to ensure they enjoy their work. 6. 5 Settling Disputes Sometimes, if a customer has a complaint about your service, it can be hard to know whos in the wrong. Customers will regularly claim theyve been short-changed or that theyve been purposefully sold poor goods. Similarly they may try to claim that an accident that occurred on your premises was due to a breach in health and safety regulations. Unfortunately its hard to identify the cases where this is true and the cases where its fabricated. Even just mentioning that you have a record on Closed Circuit Television cameras however can make the con artists back down. 6. 6 Placing Blame If a serious mistake has been made, or something has been stolen, it may well be that a member of staff needs to be reprimanded or pointed in the right direction. If no employees dont own up to the mistake however then mistakes can be allowed to slide or the wrong member of staff can be penalized. 6. 7 Keeping Records Closed Circuit Television also acts as an automated system for keeping records and can allow managers to prove to clients and check themselves that their shipments were indeed deployed etc. 6. 8 Inspiring Confidence Closed Circuit Television can also be useful for the customers themselves by creating a safe feeling environment. It can allow managers to spot crimes against customers (particularly in bars etc) and even accidents on the work premises. 7. Fax Machine There are many things that a fax machine is capable of doing. The first step to making or throwing a pot is wedging. Wedging the lump of clay properly will ensure ease when throwing. To wedge clay, the potter must rhythmically knead the clay at least one hundred times. The purpose of wedging is to remove air bubbles and thoroughly mix the clay into a workable mass. Just as an infant would die without proper care, a pot without properly wedged clay will never endure. Centering the clay is the most important part of wheel throwing. Even the best-wedged lump will be nothing without proper centering. Centering is done by lubricating the lump with water, and applying a firm but guiding hand to it. The potter then practices coning, which is moving the clay up and down to make the clay more malleable. A firm and guiding hand is needed to assist small children as they learn to make decisions. Social standards and morals have not been fully comprehended yet, so it is easy for a small child to start off on the wrong foot here. The potter now opens the centered mass rotating beneath his hands. This is done by forming a depression in the top and inserting his thumbs down to one half inch of the bottom. Then, the sides are pulled outward to the desired diameter. The potter firms or re-centers the rim each step after opening, once again using a firm and guiding hand to ensure quality. As the pot grows, less pressure is needed to keep the rim true if this was done correctly throughout the beginning stages. 5 steps to make sure your company is diverse and inclusive

5 steps to make sure your company is diverse and inclusive Diversity and inclusivity are major buzz words these days, but for good reason. Culturally, it means embracing differences and understanding that life experience is shared, but varied. Professionally, a diverse employee base can help your organization stay agile and productive, rather than stagnate with the same old ideas and viewpoints.Let’s look at five steps you can take to enrich your diversity hiring initiatives.1. Reconsider what â€Å"diversity† and â€Å"inclusivity† mean to your organization. We all know the textbook definition of diversity pretty well by now- people from a broad range of cultural, gender, or religious backgrounds. But if you’re looking to truly up your diversity factor, it’s time to broaden that definition and think about what it means for your company. Consider other types of diversity: different educational backgrounds, different experience levels, different physical abilities, etc. Hiring for diversity and inclusivity ma y not mean much in the long run if you end up hiring people who technically tick the diversity box because they are in particular racial or ethnic groups, but are in the same educational or experience mold as everyone else in the company. Think about how you can really diversify the perspectives and skill sets in your employee pool.2. Use a committee approach. How do you get more diverse voices in your organization? Start by allowing more diverse voices to help make the decisions. Opening up the process to a committee, instead of putting it all on one person or department, can really help enhance your diversity strategy. If you include team members from various departments or parts of the company, you’re also adding a level of perspective diversity as well. Your committee may also bring fresh ideas about where to look for different kinds of talent, helping you move outside the standard job ad.3. Commit to the process. It’s one thing to say, â€Å"yeah, it’s our s trategy to hire for diversity,† but it’s another to carve out the time and resources to do that, given that both are at such a premium. If you’re prioritizing diverse and inclusive hiring, you need to commit extra time to seek out alternative hiring and marketing methods to recruit that diverse talent. This may mean stepping outside your comfort zone to place ads or do outreach to non-mainstream job boards or resources.hbspt.cta.load(2785852, '9e52c197-5b5b-45e6-af34-d56403f973c5', {});4. Eliminate as much hiring bias as possible.Just about all of us think that bias is something other people do, and that we never would discriminate against someone for non-professional reasons. But the unfortunate reality is that as, you know, humans, we’re susceptible to all kinds of unconscious biases. Acknowledging that and taking steps to overcome any temptation of bias is the key to any strategic hiring initiative. Studies have found that blind hiring (or eliminating p articular personal details from the hiring process) results in significantly more diverse hires.AI programs can do this at the initial application stage by screening incoming candidates without regard for things like name (which can trigger cultural or gender bias), geographic location, age, or school name. This is also a place where having a committee, or multiple people weighing in during the hiring process, can help, as it creates an open system of checks and balances to limit certain biases- whether they’re conscious or unconscious.5. Broaden your job descriptions. Is everything in your job description an absolute must for the position? If a candidate has two fewer years of experience than the ad calls for, but has other skills, would you consider hiring that person? If someone didn’t have a full B.A., but instead had years of experience doing pretty much the same work, would you consider hiring that person? Your job ads could be turning away qualified applicants fr om the start and you’d never know. Yes, you’ll want to make sure that the ads are reflective of what the position actually demands. But if there are elements that aren’t hard-and-fast requirements, consider leaving them out or making it clear that they’re flexible.A more diverse and inclusive organization tends to be a more productive one, but it also leads to higher employee satisfaction, engagement, and retention. Putting time and resources against this priority and making sure that it’s a solid part of your organizational strategy moving forward will better prepare your company for the needs (and workforce) of the future.

Writting assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Writting assignment - Essay Example Contrary, gender roles in tribal society are defined by the individual’s capability. Although women have the primary responsibility for domestic roles, other tribes allow women to take part in subsistence food production. Men are involved in the tough task, such as hunting and gathering which is occasioned during drought (Scupin Chapter 8). At times, both genders participate in agriculture making it a shared responsibility. The gender roles in the two societies are based on food production. In the band society, the role of the women is valued so much that they are not allowed to participate in dangerous assignments. Because of this, their roles revolve around domestic duties and caring of home gardens, which the society perceives to be safe. Similarly, the home gardens are next to their houses that they can easily manage. Similarly, the inadequacy of food supplies during dry spells makes men resort to other avenues other than farming. They resort to gathering food through hunting. This is a hard duty, which women are not performing (Erickson 16). Therefore, availability of food also play a role in reinforcing gender roles. On the other hand, tribes are not involved in gender role specialization as in the case of the band. Women play attention to food production because of the sedentary life that this society lives. They take actions towards preserving what they have (Otte). Similarly, any of the gender can take part in food production since they are all available for the task. In the band society, there is a division of labor where women play different roles in the food production. There are some roles such preparing the fields for planting that women do not do. This is left for men because it is a task, which demands a lot (Otte). Because of this, there is inequality in terms of gender. Both genders are not equal and participate in different levels in food production. On the other hand, tribal society has a relationship

Multilingual learners in Primary classrooms Essay

Multilingual learners in Primary classrooms - Essay Example The result is one which creates a disadvantage to students that are bilingual and in a specific environmental setting. Analyzing the policies, practices and educational needs of students that are in a bilingual setting helps to establish a stronger relationship to what it takes to work within this setting. Observations of the Bilingual Classroom The first concept approached is one which comes from observations of the classroom and the way in which students interact in a bilingual setting. When observing the classroom, I found that there were welcome signs and procedures used to guide students. These were in different languages, which showed a specific level of assistance and ability to embrace diversity. The signs extended to different learning materials, such as body parts and days of the week, all which were established in different languages. The next representation was of the teachers and staff. There was no background languages of staff employed outside of English. The first lan guage was used all of the time in all instances. It was also noted that there were not books in other languages, with the expectation that students should be able to read in English. To try to keep with the diversity of the classroom, students were placed in groups named by planets, all which were based on the evaluation of learning. This allowed students who did not speak English as a first language to have he ability to work at their own pace. This shows that there is an embracing of diversity and culture in the classroom. However, the teacher competence and ability to meet the needs is one that is currently not being met. Policies for Bilingual Children The diversity in classrooms follows with policies which are expected for bilingual children. The policies that have been used for the education of bilingual children are based on the observations created through meeting standards and statistics which have been observed within this. Through a recent analysis, it was noted that bili ngual children who had already advanced in the language had stronger results and improvements than other children. More important, schools which were advancing into higher numbers in terms of performance were able to meet more of the needs of bilingual children while creating mainstream results within the needs for students. The study conducted by the Department of Education also indicated that the gap with bilingual students came from the ability for teachers to have a sense of confidence and expertise with the students. This particular aspect would begin to close the gaps of learning while creating more possibilities with the learning initiatives for bilingual learners. Similar to observations in the classroom, this shows that the gap is with teacher diversity, lack of learning materials and substitute materials that lead to the learning gaps (Department of Education, 2007). The creation under the Primary National Strategy in 2004 has tried to alter the gaps with policies and prog rams which are required by region. The strategies have combined with finding different ways to work with teachers while offering new programs for students who are bilingual to learn the needed materials. The policies are based on strategically finding new solutions that don’t allow children to be left behind within the school system while setting standards and requirements for children of diverse backgrounds to have the same achievements. The concept used is based on

Renaisance Education: Values and Purposes :: European Europe History

Renaisance Education: Values and Purposes The Renaissance was a time of change. It began in Italy during the 14th century, and spread throughout the North. People all over Europe were affected, for the better and for the worse. Some people finally had a chance to control their own fate. Others, like upper class women, lost their social status. The values and purposes of Renaissance education were to improve the society, increase the economy, and restore the religious beliefs. The social lives of people were greatly influenced by advancements in education during the Renaissance. More people then ever before were send to schools and educated. Schools for girls were built, and they were taught sewing, reading, writing, and dancing. Some of these schools even had teachers for singing and playing instruments. Upper class women were taught language, philosophy, theology and mathematics. But their education only prepared them for social life at home. Women lost political power, access to property and their role in shaping society. People were taught to understand and judge the writings of others. Courtiers, aristocrats and nobles were able to write poetry and text. By being well educated, having good penmanship, knowing how to ride, play, dance, sing, and dress well, men of high status gained respect and reputation. These skills also helped attain preference and support among princes. Nevertheless, the school system did not teach youth how to behave in daily life situations. They spent too much time on Grammar, Rhetoric, and Logic. Those studies that were realistic, enlightened men's minds, and prepared them for life, were reserved for the Universities. Therefore, students had a slight understanding of the meaning and the true use of knowledge. They were only able to write Latin, which no one of judgement would want to read, and when they went to universities, they wasted their friends' money and their own time. Afterwards, they would return home again, as unsophisticated and uneducated as they were before. In addition, many individuals thought that having to many schools was a terrible thing. They believed that only a minority of men should study literature, because more farmers were needed than judges, more soldiers than priests, more merchants than philosophers, and more hard working groups than dreamy and thoughtful individuals. Italian humanist Piccolomini, who himself was educated, believed that philosophy and literature, should be taught to every individual, because these studies reveal the truths about the past, the reality of the present, and the prediction of the future. A Crazy Love Story Essay

Domestic violence in today’s society has become common and normalized in the United States. When people think of domestic violence, they go straight for physical violence against women. But according to â€Å"domesticviolence.org;† Domestic violence and emotional abuse are behaviors used by one person in a relationship to control the other. Partners may be married or not married; heterosexual, gay, or lesbian; living together, separated or dating. The documentary Crazy Love is such a great example because it is a story of two lovers named â€Å"Burt Pugach† and â€Å"Linda Riss,† who are a perfect example of domestic violence. Burt became enraged that Linda would leave him even though he was still married. In a very vicious manner, Burt hired three black males to go to Linda’s house and to throw acid on her face. Linda received permanent blindness in both of her eyes and a very scarred face. Burt was in prison for 14 years while he still tried to be in contact with the woman he hurt so much. He was released from prison after good behavior and because Linda agreed for Burt to support her. It seems that partners even though they are in love, find themselves in abusive relationships. Many abusive relationships are due to wanting to have control of the other person. According to â€Å"domesticviolencestatistics.org;† nearly 1 in 5 teenage girls who have been in a relationship said a boyfriend threatened violence or self-harm if presented a breakup. Domestic violence and abuse is sometimes learned through watching someone being abused. A reason why Burt turned to domestic violence might be because his mother abused him as a young boy. His mother gave Burt severe beatings and they would not stop until his father came home. It gets to a point where it is normal for that person to get hit or be abused in some way. People who were abused or saw someone being abused do not want to be the victim anymore and they would rather be the aggressor because they are familiar with that particular relationship dynamic. (Kathryn Patricelli) An example of a celebrity that had abuse in his life when he was younger and then went on to participate in domestic violence would be Chris Brown. In Chris Brown’s childhood his parents were divorced when he was just six years old. Chris Brown saw his mother get abused by his stepfather. Since Chris Brown was so young when it happened it became part of everyday life for him. Now Chris Brown is notorious for hitting his girlfriend at the time Rihanna. Rihanna, just like Linda went back to the person that abused them. Love is something that can be defined a million different ways because the word â€Å"love† has different meanings to different people. According to Dictionary.com, love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8) This bible quote is very strong because it describes what love is really supposed to be about. According to the verse love is kind. But not all love is kind, like Linda and Burt’s relationship. Love can also bring more characteristics into the definition. Some other words that go along with the word â€Å"love† could be loyalty, respect, honesty, and compassion. As hard as it may seem, Burt does show love towards Linda Riss when he would always see if Linda was all right. He then becomes obsessed with her. Burt brought Linda to breakfast then drove her to work, then picked her up at lunchtime to bring her out to eat, and then at dinnertime Burt would pick her up from work and go out for dinner. Burt said: â€Å"I was making $60,000+ a year when everybody else was making $4,000 a year.† Burt owned a nightclub and Linda was living a life of luxury. â€Å"Crazy† is a term that could have different meaning to people also. According to Dictionary.com, crazy means mentally deranged, and manifested in a wild or aggressive way. Society also has a different definition of the word â€Å"crazy.† Some phrases could be â€Å"Wow. That was so crazy,† meaning that something really spectacular happened. When somebody would commit a crime of passion they are considered crazy. The person would have a brief episode of craziness. Linda and Burt both show their â€Å"craziness† during the film. Burt is a different kind of crazy than Linda. Burt is a man who likes to control and spoil his spouse. He is crazy to even think about harming the one person who he is completely obsessed with and harming her for the rest of her life. Linda is crazy because she stayed with a man that abused her and hurt her. In today’s society domestic violence still exists and is almost common in the United States. More households are having some type of domestic abuse. Domestic abuse has been around for many years and probably will still continue for many years to come. Some intimate relationships turn violent and women are left to figure out what to do. Some women go straight out of the relationship and other women like Linda Riss stay in the relationship and continue getting abused. Attribution Theory and Depression Mike E. Calderin Christopher Newport Attribution Theory and Depression Baron, Branscombe, and Byrne (2009) explain the attribution theory as not wanting to just know how ourselves and others act, but why we and others act that way. People assign attributes or reasons to why something happens to better perceive, justify, and understand why people act the way they do. The Attribution Theory can be applied to many different areas of peoples’ lives. In recent years the attribution theory has been applied to different areas including Depression (Baron, Branscombe, Byrne, 2009). According to the Mayo Clinic Staff depression is defined as, â€Å"a medical illness that causes a†¦show more content†¦The interesting thing about his findings is that this attitude affected further performance on later tests that were different. Just like self-fulfilling prophecy; if you are of the mindset you won’t do well then you probably will not. Different therapies have come about in an attempt to help depressed individuals change their mindset and stop engaging in self-deprecating thoughts. The Attribution retraining (AR) therapy is one of the techniques under the umbrella of cognitive behaviors. AR attempts to treat depressed individuals negative thoughts and behaviors by changing the explanations for problems and symptoms. AR has become popular and heavily researched in China because it is shorter and easily applied (Wang, et. al., 2011) Depression is easy to target with attribution theory because it can be individualized to the patients need and target the negative outcomes specifically. AR therapy targets the negative attributions by supplying alternative explanations that are more healthy attributions (Wang et. al., 2011). By offering a healthy alternative explanation the depressed person begins to make sense and not feel so out of control of their life. This may also lead to a quick way for depressed individuals to a ssess what is really happening and why they perceive the situation so negatively. This goes back to the many different facets of depression.
